The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is planning to establish a compressed biogas (CBG) plant that can process 150-200 tonnes of waste every day.
The civic body is currently looking for a suitable location for the project, which will operate through a public-private partnership.
MCG officials said they would invite companies to submit their designs for the biogas plant. After reviewing the proposals, they will release a detailed request for proposal (RFP) and issue tenders.
“We will invite companies to share their designs for the plant. After reviewing them, we will move ahead with the proposal and tender process. MCG will not spend on the plant but will provide land and municipal solid waste for processing,” said an MCG official.
The civic body’s role will be limited to providing land, while a private company will invest in the plant and handle marketing and distribution of outputs.
These outputs may include compressed biogas, compost, organic fertilisers, electrical power, and other materials recovered from waste. Officials added that waste will come from the Bandhwari landfill or other sources.
Although the plan has been drawn up, MCG is facing a problem in terms of finding land as the residents are opposed to the setting up of waste-processing plants in residential areas.
The authorities are concentrating on one plant at present but will consider setting up more plants if more land becomes available.
