Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Signs MoU with NSHIP-AP for ₹15,000 Crore Greenfield Shipyard at Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) and National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park-AP (NSHIP-AP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a shipyard at Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. MDL will invest an estimated ₹15,000 crore in the greenfield project over the next five to seven years.
The proposed shipyard will have a design capacity of 1.2 million gross tonnes a year. It will build a range of commercial vessels, including tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, LNG carriers and other specialised large vessels.
The MoU is a step towards establishing a shipbuilding and ship-repair cluster at Dugarajapatnam. According to the techno-economic feasibility report, the shipbuilding and ship repair yard is estimated to cost ₹29,254 crore.
The Andhra Pradesh government is also planning a greenfield shipbuilding-cum-port cluster at the location. The Centre will develop the proposed port at an estimated cost of ₹9,513 crore.
The planned shipyard, ship repair facilities and port infrastructure will add to the state's maritime infrastructure pipeline. The developments are expected to create new industrial and logistics infrastructure around Dugarajapatnam, supporting the state's maritime manufacturing ecosystem.
