Manipal Hospitals to Add 2,426 Beds by 2030 Through ₹2,915 Crore Greenfield and Brownfield Expansion
Manipal Hospitals plans to add 2,426 beds by 2030, with about 80 per cent of that capacity to be built through greenfield projects rather than acquisitions. The pipeline consists of around 1,943 greenfield beds and 483 brownfield beds.
New hospitals under the greenfield route require land, construction, equipment, technology, IT systems and interiors before becoming operational. According to earlier company statements, a greenfield hospital of about 250 beds typically requires ₹380-390 crore, excluding land and building costs, with medical equipment, technology, IT and interiors costing roughly ₹1.5 crore per bed. Applying this benchmark to the planned 1,943 greenfield beds indicates an equipment and fit-out investment of about ₹2,915 crore, excluding land and building costs.
The geographic focus of the expansion is concentrated in markets where Manipal already operates, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and eastern India. The company is also evaluating acquisitions in Delhi-NCR, Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, with the Mumbai-Pune corridor identified as a key growth opportunity for new capacity.
The company has not disclosed a year-by-year schedule, specific project sites, construction timelines or specialty mix for the proposed greenfield hospitals. The 2030 horizon marks the stated target for the identified pipeline of 2,426 additional beds, equivalent to roughly 39 per cent of Manipal's existing operational bed base.
