L&T Secures Mega Order from NTPC to Build 1,600 MW Lara Stage-III Thermal Power Plant, Chhattisgarh
L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of Larsen & Toubro, has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from state-run NTPC Limited for the main plant package of the 1,600 MW Lara Stage-III thermal power project in Chhattisgarh. The order, classified by L&T as "Mega" and valued between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore, will be executed on an EPC basis.
The project involves construction of two 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units. L&T's scope covers design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of boilers, steam turbines, generators, electrostatic precipitators, air-cooled condensers and associated mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation and civil works.
The formal Notice to Proceed will take effect once the project receives environmental clearance and the LNTP period concludes. Ultra-supercritical technology, which offers higher efficiency and lower specific emissions compared to conventional coal-based generation, will be used for the plant.
The order marks L&T's third ultra-supercritical thermal power project win from NTPC in the past two years. T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director and Head of L&T's Energy Hydrocarbon Division, said the award reflects continued confidence from India's largest power utility in the company's engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities. Once commissioned, the plant will add 1,600 MW of baseload generation capacity to India's power grid.
