GRSE Bags ₹1,032 Crore Contract from ONGC to Build Four Platform Supply Vessels
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), a Navratna Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has received a Notification of Award from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the design, construction and delivery of four Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs). The contract, valued at ₹1,032 crore, was awarded on July 30, 2026, following a competitive bidding process in which GRSE quoted the lowest bid of ₹258 crore per vessel.
The vessels will be designed and built in accordance with the rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). Each PSV will have an overall length of about 80 metres, a beam of 20 metres, a deadweight capacity of 3,000 tonnes, endurance of 45+3 days, and a clear deck area of about 650 square metres. The vessels will feature hybrid propulsion architecture with electrically driven azimuth thrusters and a Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System, supporting peak load management, dynamic positioning and emergency response functions.
The project is to be executed over 48 months from the date of award. The order marks GRSE's diversification beyond defence shipbuilding into the commercial and offshore vessel segment, and forms part of the aggregate demand plan for commercial shipbuilding under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, which aims to support construction of about 430 Indian-owned ships over the next decade. GRSE is also eligible for financial assistance of 15-25% per vessel under the ₹24,736 crore Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme.
With more than six decades of shipbuilding experience, GRSE has built and delivered over 800 platforms, including 118 warships, for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and foreign customers. The company's order book stood at ₹15,324 crore at the end of FY26.
