LICO Materials, a lithium-ion battery recycling company, has inaugurated a battery recycling facility in Bengaluru. This move aligns with India’s vision of achieving 30 percent electric vehicle (EV) adoption by 2030.
The plant boasts a processing capacity of four GWh per annum, with plans to scale up to 10 GWh within the next three to four years.
The facility, designed as a zero-liquid-discharge plant, can recycle and repurpose 17,500 tonne of batteries annually.
LICO aims to process batteries equivalent to 2,00,000 tonne from electric cars by 2027.
In a parallel development, LICO is set to invest Rs 250 crore over the next two to three years in establishing a downstream hydrometallurgy plant.
This advanced facility will extract metal salts from black mass produced during the recycling process, achieving battery-grade purity.
The recovered materials will be supplied to gigafactories and energy storage systems, closing the loop in the battery materials supply chain.
