Metallurgical Industries Jul 18,2026

JSW Steel has approved fresh capital expenditure exceeding ₹33,000 crore during the first quarter of FY27, as part of the company's long-term expansion strategy. With this approval, JSW Steel's total investment pipeline has reached ₹1.31 lakh crore, to be deployed systematically over the next four to five years.

A significant share of the newly approved investment will support the Phase-2 expansion of the company's Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka, involving an increase in capacity from 15 MTPA to 26 MTPA. JSW Steel expects to commission this expansion by FY30. The company has additionally allocated an estimated ₹2,000 crore for downstream infrastructure to optimise production capabilities across multiple plant locations.

The Vijayanagar plant, one of the largest single-location steel manufacturing facilities in the world, has been the focus of successive brownfield expansions by JSW Steel over the past several years, alongside other projects at Dolvi in Maharashtra and in Odisha.

Since April 1, 2026, the company has incurred a cumulative capital expenditure of ₹3,052 crore. For FY27, JSW Steel expects actual capital expenditure to range between ₹22,000 crore and ₹24,000 crore, as it continues to expand both raw steel capacity and downstream, higher-value product lines across its manufacturing network.
