JSW Energy secures LoA for 1,600 MW thermal power project from WBSEDCL

Power Generation  -  Feb 06,2025  -

JSW Energy has received a letter of award (LoA) from the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) for the development and operation of a 1,600 MW greenfield thermal power plant.

The plant will consist of two 800 MW units and will be based on super/ultra-super critical technology using domestic coal.

This coal will be sourced through the SHAKTI B (IV) policy, a government initiative aimed at providing coal linkages to power plants through transparent bidding. The contract was awarded to JSW Energy under a competitive bidding process initiated by WBSEDCL.

This development boosts JSW Energy’s total locked-in generation capacity to 30 GW, with the thermal capacity now standing at nine GW. JSW Energy is now well on track to meet its target of achieving 20 GW of generation capacity well before its initial 2030 deadline.

With this successful award, the company continues to diversify its energy mix, combining thermal power with its growing focus on renewable energy.
