AAI completes pre-feasibility study for greenfield airport at Bhadradri-Kothagudem

Infrastructure  -  Feb 06,2025  -

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has conducted a pre-feasibility study for development of greenfield airport at the proposed site in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district in Telangana in January, 2025, according to Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol.

The study was conducted following a request from Telangana government.

Murlidhar Mohol said this while replying to a question in Rajya Sabha to a question posed by Congress MP M Anil Kumar Yadav from Telangana.

Yadav asked whether the Central government has taken any steps to set up a new airport in Telangana besides the existing one in Hyderabad and fixed any tentative time to make the new airport operational.

The Union Minister said the Central government has formulated a Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy-2008 for development of new greenfield airports in the country.

As per the policy, if any airport developer including the State Government desires to develop an airport, they are required to identify a suitable site and get the pre-feasibility study conducted and submit a proposal to the Central government for 'Site Clearance' followed by 'In-Principle' approval.
