The Japanese manufacturer of electronic parts, TDK Corp, will produce lithium ion (li-ion) battery cells for Apple iPhones in India.
As it attempts to shift some production away from China, Apple has been promoting India as its next great growth engine.
It has 14 suppliers in India and started building iPhones there in 2017 with the help of Wistron and then Foxconn.
TDK will set up a manufacturing facility in the northern state of Haryana, creating around 1,000 new jobs, Deputy Minister for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on social media platform X.
Cells manufactured at the facility will be supplied to Apple's li-ion battery assembler Sunwoda Electronics, the report added.
