Hindalco Commissions Greenfield Superfine PPT ATH Plant at Belagavi, Karnataka
Hindalco Industries has commissioned a greenfield Superfine PPT ATH (Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate) manufacturing plant in Belagavi, Karnataka. The facility brings domestic production of this high-value specialty alumina product to India for the first time, with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tonnes.
The new plant strengthens Hindalco's Specialty Alumina portfolio and supports India's push toward self-reliant manufacturing in critical fire-safety applications. The facility is also positioned as the world's only speciality alumina plant to operate entirely on renewable energy, setting what the company describes as a global benchmark for sustainable manufacturing in the sector.
PPT ATH is a high-value, halogen-free flame-retardant material used in Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) cables, polymer insulators, thermal insulation, composites and paints. In cable applications, it helps suppress flame propagation and smoke generation without releasing halogen acid gases, supporting safer electrical and infrastructure systems.
Demand for the material is growing on the back of stricter fire-safety standards, rising adoption of electric vehicles and infrastructure development, and a broader shift toward sustainable, high-performance materials in construction and electrical applications.
