Gwalior to Host Asia's First Telecom Manufacturing Zone with ₹5,500 Crore Investment
Gwalior is set to host Asia's first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ), involving an estimated investment of ₹5,500 crore and expected to create more than 18,000 direct jobs, according to the Ministry of Communications. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inspected the proposed site at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) in Gwalior along with senior officials from the Department of Telecommunications.
The project envisages a cluster of 24–25 telecom manufacturing units producing telecom equipment and components, rather than a single industrial facility. Around 170 acres has been identified for the first phase, comprising more than 90 acres in SADA and over 70 acres in the adjoining IT Park. Additional land is expected to be allocated as investor demand, which currently exceeds available land, continues to grow.
The Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government signed an MoU in July 2026 to establish the TMZ. This was followed by investor roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai in August 2026, which attracted investment commitments of approximately ₹3,500 crore (around 14,000 jobs) and ₹2,000 crore (around 4,000 jobs) respectively. Twenty-four companies have since initiated the formal application process to set up manufacturing units within the zone.
The Madhya Pradesh government has also framed a dedicated incentive package for telecom manufacturers, covering land leases, power, employment and production-linked benefits. Separately, the Department of Telecommunications has proposed a Common Testing Lab facility worth approximately ₹500 crore to provide testing infrastructure for units within the zone.
