The Union government has approved 11 project proposals related to technical textiles worth nearly Rs 103 crore.
The Union Minister for Textiles, Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal cleared the proposals while chairing the eighth meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG) of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).
These project proposals include nine R&D projects, one project on machine development and a project on equipment development.
These cover different application areas of technical textiles including two projects of Protech, two of Meditech, two of Mobiltech, one of Buildtech, two Smart Textiles and one project in Sustainable Textiles.
One of the projects focused on development of high-strength carbon fibre for strategic applications to make India self-reliant in the field.
Amongst the approved projects, research projects were led by institutes and research bodies including CSIR-NAL, ATIRA, NITRA, IIT Delhi, ICT- Mumbai, among others.
