The Bhogapuram International Airport in Andhra Pradesh is set to be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu confirmed the Prime Minister's schedule and said the state government is planning a large-scale inauguration event.

The greenfield airport has been developed by GMR Airports at a capital cost of around ₹4,750 crore, spanning approximately 2,203 acres near Bhogapuram in North Andhra. The project is intended to ease traffic pressure on the existing Visakhapatnam airport and serve as a new gateway for domestic and international connectivity in the region.

Originally initiated by the previous Telugu Desam Party government in 2014, the project was accelerated under the current coalition government and completed within two years. State officials, including Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and senior GMR executives, reviewed the airport's infrastructure and operational readiness ahead of the launch.

According to the state government, the airport is expected to catalyse tourism and industrial activity in the Visakha Economic Region, complementing other ongoing infrastructure initiatives in the region including highways, ports and irrigation projects.

The inauguration marks the transition of the Bhogapuram project from construction to commercial operations, positioning it as a new aviation hub for North Andhra Pradesh.
