Cygni Energy and Indus Towers Sign MoU for Up to 1.5 GWh BESS Manufacturing Capacity for Telecom Infrastructure
Cygni Energy Private Limited and Indus Towers Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on sourcing energy storage solutions for telecom infrastructure in India. The announcement was made from Hyderabad.
Under the MoU, the proposed collaboration includes plans to set up Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing capacity of up to 1.5 GWh. The capacity is meant to meet the evolving energy requirements of telecom infrastructure. The two companies also expect to evaluate advanced battery technologies for telecom applications. The stated aims are better reliability, improved energy efficiency and more sustainable telecom operations.
Cygni Energy Founder and CEO Venkat Rajaraman said the company plans to develop capacity of up to 2 GWh. He said it will build a portfolio that moves from today's 100Ah solutions to higher-capacity 314Ah systems and emerging battery technologies.
The MoU records an intent to explore collaboration and is not a binding commitment. The source does not state the investment size, manufacturing location, timeline or equipment suppliers. Cell, pack and assembly-line equipment suppliers and engineering consultants may find opportunities if the capacity proceeds to the project stage.
