Construction Begins on ₹3,000 Crore New Integrated Terminal at Ahmedabad's SVPI Airport
Construction has commenced on the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad. The first phase of the project, estimated to cost more than ₹3,000 crore, is targeted for completion and operational readiness by 2029-30 as passenger traffic at the airport continues to rise.
The new terminal will be developed in phases to ensure uninterrupted airport operations throughout construction. The initial phase will be built adjacent to the existing domestic terminal, extending from the T3 side. Airport authorities, operated by Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Ltd (AAIAL), have begun preparing the site, with construction zones being demarcated after most of the existing T3 facilities were vacated.
The terminal complex is planned to expand further in subsequent phases as part of the airport's broader plan to increase passenger handling capacity. Officials said passengers will not face immediate disruptions, as flight operations, terminal access and approach roads will continue functioning normally while construction progresses.
Alongside the terminal project, work is also progressing on a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) building within the airport campus, along with additional upgrades to airside infrastructure and utility systems. Once completed, the new terminal is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and support rising domestic and international traffic at the airport.
