Charmadi Ghat in Karnataka to undergo widening at Rs 343 crore

Infrastructure  -  Nov 11,2024  -

The Karnataka government has announced plans to widen the Charmadi Ghat, a crucial stretch of highway connecting Mangaluru and Bengaluru, as part of an effort to improve transportation infrastructure. The project, which is set to cost approximately Rs 343 crore, aims to enhance road safety, reduce travel time, and support regional economic growth.

Charmadi Ghat, located in the Western Ghats, is notorious for its narrow, winding roads that can pose challenges to motorists. The widening initiative is expected to improve traffic flow, particularly for freight vehicles, and reduce congestion in the area. The upgraded road will also help in better connectivity between the coastal and interior regions of Karnataka.

The project is part of a broader initiative to develop and modernize key highways across the state, with special attention to the safety and convenience of travelers. Once completed, the Charmadi Ghat widening will significantly boost access to important economic and tourist hubs in the region.

The government has assured that the project will be executed with minimal disruption to local communities and the environment. Completion is expected in the next few years, marking a significant step in Karnataka’s road infrastructure development.
