Maharashtra Cabinet has approved setting up of two green hydrogen and similar production units in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

With a capacity of 10 to 15 kilo tonne per annum (KTPA), these will be selected as anchor units.

An anchor unit is the first three commissioned green hydrogen and its derivative projects in the state with a green hydrogen capacity of at least 50 KTPA, as defined under the 2023 Government Resolution.

Green hydrogen serves various applications, including fuel cells to power vehicles and provide electricity, to store surplus electricity from wind or solar power, production of chemicals and fertilisers, heating systems, and production of ammonia.
