Belden-Ruckus Wireless to Expand Local Manufacturing at Pune Facility for Ethernet Switches
US-based Belden Inc will increase its local manufacturing capacity at its facility in Pune to produce Ethernet switches used for Wi-Fi connectivity, network equipment and AI-powered automation. The expansion follows Belden's $1.8 billion acquisition of Ruckus Wireless and supports the government's "Make in India" initiative.
Bart Giordano, senior vice president and general manager at Ruckus Networks, said the increased capacity will initially serve domestic market demand, with export opportunities to be evaluated in later phases. Specific investment figures or capacity metrics were not disclosed.
The move marks a strategic shift for Ruckus Wireless, which had historically relied entirely on outsourced manufacturing. The company is now using Belden's existing 300,000-square-foot Pune facility to manufacture products locally, with initial production focused on the Ruckus ICX Ethernet switching portfolio — which generates nearly half of Ruckus's total business. The first batch of locally manufactured switches has begun rolling off the assembly line.
The company plans incremental investments and workforce expansion as manufacturing scales up, with other enterprise networking products to be evaluated for the Pune line in the future. The Pune manufacturing addition builds on Ruckus's existing India presence, which includes its largest global R&D and customer-success site in Bengaluru and an R&D centre in Chennai run in collaboration with the IIT Madras Research Park. Beyond enterprise IT, the combined Belden-Ruckus portfolio will target industrial sectors including advanced manufacturing, warehousing and logistics.
