Arunachal Pradesh government has authorised the allocation of the 1,800 MW Kamala project and the 2,000 MW Subansiri Upper Hydro project to the state-run hydropower juggernaut National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Ltd.

Both initiatives had previously been assigned to private electricity producers.

According to a senior official in the state hydropower department, the government informed the NHPC that the projects had been approved.

The Kamala project will be built on the Kamala river, a tributary of the Subansiri river, and is located in Kamle district, while the Subansiri Upper project is situated on the Subansiri river, a tributary of the river Brahmaputra, in the Upper Subansiri district of the northeastern state.

The Subansiri Upper project was allotted to KSK Energy Venture Ltd on 18 March, 2010, while the Kamala project was offered to Jindal Power Ltd on 28 August, 2009, by signing memorandums of agreements (MoA).
