Andhra Pradesh's ₹1 Lakh Crore Infrastructure Push: 8 Mega Projects Across Irrigation, Expressways and Ports
Andhra Pradesh is undergoing a major infrastructure push spanning irrigation, expressways, highways, and ports, with 8 mega projects together valued at close to ₹1 lakh crore aimed at enhancing connectivity and long-term economic development.
The Polavaram Irrigation Project, a national multipurpose river scheme on the Godavari at Eluru district, has been revised to a cost of ₹62,436 crore and is scheduled for completion by 2027. It will provide gross storage capacity of approximately 194 TMC, irrigate about 7.2 lakh acres, supply drinking water to nearly 540 villages, and generate 960 MW of hydroelectric power.
Three greenfield expressway corridors are under development in the state. The Bengaluru-Vijayawada Greenfield Corridor (NH-544G), a 518-km highway estimated at ₹5,378 crore, will shorten travel between the two cities by around 110 km. The Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway, a 464-km, six-lane project under Bharatmala Pariyojana costing ₹16,482 crore, will connect Chhattisgarh to Visakhapatnam Port, cutting travel time from 12-13 hours to 5-6 hours. The Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway, a 258-km, four-lane corridor costing ₹18,000 crore, passes through Chittoor district and will reduce travel time between Chennai and Bengaluru to 2.5-3 hours.
