Amit Metaliks To Fast-Track ₹4,000 Crore Greenfield Steel Plant In Purulia, West Bengal; Targets 800-Day Completion
Amit Metaliks Ltd is targeting completion of its ₹4,000 crore greenfield integrated steel plant in West Bengal within 1,000 days, while exploring options to compress the timeline to 800 days. Amit Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Amit Metaliks, said the company would review its project schedule with its team to examine how it could meet a faster completion target set by the state government.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for the project at Raghunathpur in Purulia district on August 17, 2026. The event, which also marked the 100th day of the state's BJP government, was attended by several cabinet ministers, company executives and industry representatives.
The integrated plant is planned with an annual steel production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, with commercial operations targeted to begin by 2029. The facility will include a pellet plant, direct reduced iron (DRI) unit, rolling mill, SEAF and forging facilities, a brick manufacturing unit, and a 145 MW captive power plant, supported by advanced manufacturing technologies and sustainable infrastructure.
The project is expected to generate more than 5,000 direct employment opportunities, with additional indirect jobs anticipated across logistics, transportation, engineering services, construction and local supply chains during both the construction and operational phases.
Amit Metaliks is the flagship company of Amit Alliance, a group with interests spanning steel, mining and infrastructure and annual revenue of around ₹2,000 crore. The company said the investment is expected to strengthen West Bengal's position as a key steel production hub and support the industrial development of the Purulia region and eastern India more broadly.
