AM Green and V O Chidambaranar Port Authority to Develop Green Ammonia Bunkering Hub at Tuticorin with ₹5,000 Crore Investment
AM Green and V O Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) signed an MOU on May 28, 2026, to develop a green ammonia bunkering facility at Tuticorin port in Tamil Nadu. The initial phase targets a bunkering capacity of 2,00,000 tonnes per annum by 2029-30, requiring an estimated investment of ₹2,000 crore.
The partners have identified potential to scale bunkering capacity to 5,00,000 tonnes per annum by 2035, subject to demand growth for low-carbon marine fuels, with total bunkering infrastructure investment at that scale estimated at approximately ₹5,000 crore.
VOCPA will provide port infrastructure and institutional support for the project. The port authority has noted that Tuticorin's existing ammonia handling infrastructure and its designation as a National Green Hydrogen Hub make it suited for green ammonia bunkering and export operations.
The bunkering hub is positioned to serve global shipping companies seeking alternatives to conventional bunker fuels as international emissions compliance requirements tighten.
