Kharghar Vikhroli Transmission Limited (KVTL) has been commissioned, allowing additional power to be delivered into Mumbai and so assisting in fulfilling the city's growing and future electrical demand.
The project is critical for Mumbai because the existing capacity of the transmission corridor is insufficient to carry additional power into the city.
It was built by Adani Energy Solutions Limited (formerly Adani Transmission Limited), the Adani portfolio's energy solution, transmission and distribution arm.
Mumbai experienced grid failure twice recently: on February 27, 2022, and October 12, 2020, when regions around the city remained black for an extended length of time.
The Kharghar-Vikhroli line will bring additional 1,000 MW reliable power to Mumbai city as a solution to mitigate any such incidents in the future.
With this project's commissioning, Mumbai gets a 400 KV grid within its municipal geography, bringing enhanced import capability within its electricity grid and improving reliability and stability.
For consumers, it provides that much more sustainability to commuting through bullet trains, Metro Rail and city railways, as also for commercial and residential establishments.
