₹105 Cr PG Doctor Hostel Complex Planned at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital

Hospitality and Healthcare May 26,2026

The Gujarat government has announced plans to construct a new Super Specialty Married PG Hostel complex at the New Mental Campus near Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Asarwa at an estimated cost of ₹105 crore. The decision follows the declaration of existing hostel blocks as structurally unsafe after they sustained extensive damage in the June 12, 2025 plane crash at Meghani Nagar, necessitating their demolition.

The new complex, to be developed within the New Mental Campus–IGP Compound in Meghani Nagar, will be designated 'Atulyam 1 to 7' and will feature a G+8 structure with accommodation for 236 super-specialty married PG doctors. The project has been sized to account for 48 new seats being added to super-specialty medical courses, covering projected student intake over the next three years.

Each residential unit in the complex will be configured as a studio apartment comprising a living room, attached kitchen, bedroom, and toilet. Supporting infrastructure will include fire-fighting systems, an RO plant, an upgraded drainage network, basement parking, a modern canteen block, a mess, a gymnasium, a recreation room, and landscaped open spaces. Separate accommodation for unmarried PG students is also planned within the campus. A new sub-station will also be constructed as part of the project.

Tata Airlines has agreed to pay ₹53.12 crore as compensation to the state Health Department for the damage caused to the Atulyam 1 to 4 hostel blocks, canteen, and sub-station buildings in the crash. The state government will fund the remaining project cost.

For the 2026–27 financial year, a budgetary provision of ₹34.65 crore has been approved against an estimated annual allocation of ₹51.84 crore to facilitate early commencement of construction. Land within the campus has already been identified and allocated for the development.
