A joint venture between Centre and State - Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation - will establish a rolling stock manufacturing unit near Nagpur with an initial annual capacity of 100 coaches. Global players such as Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Alstom will be roped in for the development. The unit will be operational in a year and will supply coaches to metro projects across the nation, conduct periodical overhaul of over 2,500 coaches. Pre-project activities are underway.
