Work commences on Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Link Road

Infrastructure  -  Dec 18,2024  -

Work has commenced on the Rs 2,099-crore Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Link Road (KTLR) in Navi Mumbai, aimed at significantly reducing travel time and easing traffic congestion on Sion-Panvel highway.

The project, led by CIDCO with Rithwik Projects as the contractor, is expected to be completed by September 2028. The KTLR will reduce the current 40-minute journey between Turbhe and Kharghar to just 10 minutes.

An official stated, “Motorists travelling to Navi Mumbai via the Sion-Panvel highway will be able to take the KTLR from Jui Nagar railway station, reducing their travel time by 30 minutes.”

The road will connect with the Atal Setu and the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport, enhancing regional connectivity within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The project involves a 1.8-km twin tunnel through Kharghar hill and a 3.4-km elevated viaduct. Starting at Turbhe and running alongside the Sion-Panvel highway to Juinagar railway station, the route will pass through two unidirectional tunnels, ending near Central Park junction in Kharghar.

Additionally, a 1.5-km elevated road will link Central Park with the Taloja Central Jail, and a subway will connect Central Park to a proposed international corporate park.

The infrastructure will improve access to Kharghar, Taloja, industrial areas, and attractions like CIDCO’s golf course.

Officials confirmed, “All regulatory protocols are being followed,” and the work is on track for completion in four years.
