WABAG, Peak Sustainability ink pact to set up bio-CNG plants in India, overseas

Manufacturing  -  Jan 30,2024  -

VA Tech Wabag (WABAG) has inked an agreement with Peak Sustainability Ventures (PEAK) to set up 100 bio-CNG plants in India, Africa, Europe, and the GCC.

The plants will use methane generated from sewage treatment facilities, which would otherwise result in higher emissions and pollution.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sustainability Ventures to establish 100 Bio-CNG plants at sewage treatment plants (STPs) in India and other agreed-upon locations.

The partnership seeks to harness the unutilised potential of STPs as well as generate bio-CNG, which can be used for mobility applications in trucks and heavy-duty vehicles, along with industrial applications, thereby reducing the need for fossil fuels.

The estimated cost to establish 100 bio-CNG plants is approx. 200 million, and this collaboration intends to generate over 73 million kgs of bio-CNG annually. .

Further, this will boost the local and agrarian economies and will also result in employment opportunities. With this collaboration, WABAG is taking the next step in its green energy segment to produce cleaner and greener fuel and to support the country’s vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
