VOC Port’s outer harbour development in consideration at Rs 7,000 crore outlay

Infrastructure  -  Jan 29,2024  -

The Central government is actively contemplating to start the work on VOC Port outer harbour development on an outlay of over Rs 7,000 crore.

This includes the proposal for setting up green hydrogen and green ammonia in the port lands. Work on this project is expected to commence in the near future once the final nod is given.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is keen to commence the work on outer harbor development as part of the capacity augmentation.

Under this initiative, two container terminals of 1,000 mtrs. quay length each would be created.

VOC Port had been identified as the ‘nodal port’ for developing off-shore wind farms in the southern Tamil Nadu from Kanniyakumari to Ramanathapuram region.

To support the initiative, the Port had proposed to develop the required berths and other infrastructure support.
