Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced that nine new airports will be constructed in Uttar Pradesh in the next two years.
Scindia highlighted the Modi government's strong focus on the civil aviation sector, during the question hour in the Rajya Sabha.
Scindia said that in the first 65 years of independence, only 74 airports were built.
However, in the last nine years of the Modi government, 75 airports, including airports, heliports, and waterdromes, have been developed, bringing the total to 149.
The minister mentioned that while only three greenfield airports were built in 65 years, the current government has successfully developed 12 greenfield airports since 2014.
"We are set to build nine more airports in Uttar Pradesh over the next two years, bringing the total count to 18," Scindia announced.
