Uno Minda to Invest ₹320 Crore in Greenfield Passenger Vehicle Seating Systems Plant in Maharashtra

Uno Minda Limited's board of directors has approved an investment of approximately ₹320 crore for a greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, marking the company's entry into complete seating systems for four-wheeler passenger vehicles.

The project will be executed through Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited (UMTS), the company's joint venture with Japan-based TACHI-S Company Limited, in which Uno Minda holds a 51 percent stake. The partnership, which began in 2022 with production of seat recliners, is now expanding into design and manufacture of complete seating systems.

The new facility will have an annual production capacity of 2.4 lakh seating systems, with commercial production expected to begin in the fourth quarter of FY28. Capacity is planned to scale up further in phases through FY31 based on market demand. The project will be financed through a combination of equity and term loans.

Uno Minda's Investment, Mergers & Acquisitions Committee has also approved an additional equity investment of up to ₹93 crore in UMTS, to be infused in phases without altering the company's 51 percent ownership in the joint venture. The joint venture has already secured its first supply order from a leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, providing an initial production pipeline ahead of the plant's commissioning.

The expansion adds to Uno Minda's broader push into premium automotive interior components, alongside its existing manufacturing network spanning India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany, Spain and Mexico, and follows other recent capacity additions in AW4W systems and EV powertrain manufacturing announced earlier in 2026.
