UltraTech Cement Starts Commercial Production at ₹1,800 Crore Wires and Cables Plant in Jhagadia, Gujarat

UltraTech Cement has formally commenced commercial production at its greenfield wires and cables facility in Jhagadia, in Gujarat's Bharuch district, effective September 1, 2026. The launch marks the Aditya Birla Group company's entry into the wires and cables industry under the new brand Ultravolt.

The plant has an installed capacity of approximately 1,098,000 km annually for house wires and light-duty cables. The company has said it intends to scale this capacity roughly threefold over the next five years. The facility began commercial operations ahead of its originally planned December 2026 target.

The project represents a total planned investment of ₹1,800 crore, of which around ₹888 crore had been committed as of June 2026, according to the company. The business will serve residential, commercial, infrastructure and industrial sectors, extending UltraTech's presence in the construction value chain beyond its core cement, ready-mix concrete and construction chemicals businesses.

The entry into wires and cables positions UltraTech to compete with established players in a segment that has recorded strong revenue growth in recent years, driven by a continuing shift from the unorganised to the organised market. The company said it plans to leverage its existing manufacturing expertise and nationwide distribution network to build out the new business line.
