The civil and installation work on a 9.6-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Panjapur in Trichy city has been completed by the Corporation.
The solar power park is touted to save Rs 9 crore for the local body in their annual electricity expense.
Administrative work has been initiated to obtain approvals for supplying electricity produced by the solar power park to a Tangedco substation.
The ground-mounted solar power park was installed at Rs 53 crore in two separate phases using the smart cities mission funding.
Work including the construction of reinforced cement concrete pillars to mount 29,328 solar panels, roads, water sources, and streetlights to maintain and clean the panels, and supportive infrastructure to transmit electricity generated by the panels were completed.
“Only a minor part of the link to transmit electricity to a Tangedco substation is pending. Meanwhile, we have approached the senior officials in Tangedco seeking an inspection to commission the facility,” a senior official said.
