Tolins Tyres' Subsidiary Terra Rubber Breaks Ground on Reclaim Rubber Manufacturing Facility in Palakkad, Kerala
Tolins Tyres Limited has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Terra Rubber Private Limited, has commenced construction of a new Reclaim Rubber manufacturing facility in Palakkad, Kerala. The groundbreaking marks a step in the Tolins Group's strategy to strengthen its presence across the rubber value chain through backward integration, raw-material efficiency and circular manufacturing.
The facility will use scrap tyres and other rubber waste, including rubber compound waste, as key raw materials. Through a controlled devulcanisation process, the plant will recover usable rubber and convert it into Reclaimed Rubber, which can be incorporated into rubber compounds as a substitute for a portion of virgin rubber, depending on product specifications and performance requirements.
The company said that by combining the sale of Reclaimed Rubber with the potential generation and transfer of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) certificates, subject to applicable regulatory requirements, Terra Rubber has the potential to create multiple avenues of value from the recycling of waste tyres.
The facility is expected to strengthen the Tolins Group's participation across the rubber value chain while supporting resource recovery, waste diversion and a more circular approach to rubber manufacturing. The project follows a purchase agreement Terra Rubber entered into earlier this year with Cochin Reclaim and Rubbers Private Limited to acquire plant and machinery for the capacity expansion.
