Tube Investments of India (TII) has set up a manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh and a research and development (R&D) centre in Chennai, as the Murugappa Group company's endeavour to bolster its medical arm’s contract development and manufacturing operations (CDMO). It seeks to tap opportunities in the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in the pharmaceutical segment.

Last year, the company launched 3xper Innoventure, a new venture for CDMO of APIs, and aims to provide comprehensive chemistry solutions, including discovery, development and manufacturing services to cater to global pharmaceutical, healthcare, and specialty chemical companies. To support its growth, the company has commissioned this R&D facility in Chennai, which is equipped with dedicated synthetic and analytical labs, and focuses on scale-up and technology transfer.

TII has diversified into new sectors, including electric mobility and medical segments. In May 2023, it acquired medical consumables manufacturer Lotus Surgicals, now renamed TI Medical, as a subsidiary of TII, for medical and surgical consumables, which operates manufacturing plant in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It also plans to embark on MedTech projects.

Additionally, a greenfield plant is being set up in Naidupeta, about 120 km from Chennai for manufacturing purpose. Construction of this facility is expected to be completed in the ongoing financial year, and woud offer services from small-scale material generation to commercial-scale manufacturing.
