THDC India to establish 1,400 MW pumped storage project in Chhattisgarh

Power Generation  -  Mar 12,2025  -

THDC India announced plans to set up a 1,400 MW pumped storage project (PSP) in Chhattisgarh.

The company signed an agreement with the Chhattisgarh government, and the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was exchanged in Raipur in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain.

Located in Dangari, the project will generate employment and contribute to socio-economic development. It will optimise energy usage by storing surplus power during off-peak hours and supplying electricity when demand peaks.

THDC India Chairman and Managing Director R K Vishnoi said, “PSPs play a crucial role in balancing renewable energy generation, ensuring grid stability, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.”

Headquartered in Rishikesh, the company currently has an installed capacity of 2,247 MW, covering thermal and renewable projects across multiple states.

It operates as a joint venture between NTPC and the Uttar Pradesh government
