Tata Power Begins Construction of 800 MW Wind-Solar-FDRE Project in Andhra Pradesh
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for an 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh. The project combines wind, solar and firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) components.
TPREL will develop the wind asset itself, while Suzlon has been engaged to execute the engineering, procurement and construction work for the wind component at Ananthapuram. Of the total capacity, 400 MW will be developed by TPREL for NTPC, including a 200 MW FDRE project integrated with a 25 MW/50 MWh battery energy storage system. The remaining 200 MW of solar capacity remains available for future allocation.
The project has secured 800 MW of inter-state transmission system connectivity at the Ananthapuram II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations to support power evacuation once commissioned.
The groundbreaking follows TPREL's commissioning of its 100.8 MW Jewali wind project in Dharashiv district, Maharashtra, earlier in July 2026, with power from that project supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to help meet its renewable purchase obligation targets.
