Tata bags Chennai Metro Line-5’s Tunneling Contract

Infrastructure  -  Jul 26,2023  -

Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL) was recognised as the lowest-accepting bidder for the civil construction of Chennai Metro's 44.6 km Line-5's underground Package UG-06/RT-01.

Between Kolathur and Nathamuni on the predominantly elevated Line-5 that will connect Madhavaram and Sholinganallur with 45 stops, this about 5.8 km civil package of the Chennai Metro's Phase 2 project comprises of twin tunnels and five subterranean stations.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) is reopening the contract bidding process. L&T was the sole bidder in the initial round in August 2021, and it was obvious that they would be the lowest bidder in November 2021. Their bid was far greater than CMRL's estimate, which caused the procurement to be cancelled and new bids to be requested in December 2021.

In the new round, CMRL re-invited bids with an estimated value at Rs. 1580 crore and completion deadline of 1395 days (3.8 year). Technical bids were opened in May to reveal 5 bidders.
