Solar plants to come up on 2,700 acres of Central Railway land

Renewable Energy  -  Jul 18,2023  -

The Central Railway has chosen to build 1MW solar plants at 81 locations around its network, including one in Ajni, Nagpur, as part of its commitment to renewable energy.

We have located about 2,700 acres of disused or vacant railway land to make it easier to put the solar systems.

According to chief public relations officer (CPRO) Shivraj Manaspure, these areas have enormous potential for the construction of solar power infrastructure and will contribute to further lowering carbon emissions from the Indian Railway.

“This ambitious project will further augment the railway’s solar energy capacity and promote sustainable practices across its operations," he added.

The Central Railway has already empowered sustainability efforts with solar rooftop plants and an expanded solar capacity of 135kWp has been installed at multipe stations in June 2023.
