RfP issued for development of convention centre in Visakhapatnam

Infrastructure  -  May 28,2024  -

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has issued a request for proposal (RfP) to develop a state-of-the-art convention center in Vizag.

This ambitious project, set to include a minimum 5-star category hotel or resort and waterfront entertainment facilities, will be built on an open space within VMRDA Park on the city's scenic Beach Road. The total estimated cost for this development is approximately ₹250 crore, and it will be executed through a public-private partnership model.

The project will be developed on a 7.97-acre site and will feature a multi-purpose convention hall attached to a luxurious 5-star hotel with at least 200 rooms, along with other amenities. This initiative aligns with VMRDA’s master plan 2041, approved by the government in 2021, which designates holiday resorts as permissible within the proposed recreation land use zone.

Currently, the land is vacant, covered with vegetation, and includes a small operational structure, helipad, and swimming pool.

According to the RfP issued by VMRDA, the minimum development obligations (MDOs) for the project include the construction of a multi-purpose convention hall capable of accommodating at least 2,500 people in theatre-style seating.
