The Central government has given green signal to the estimate of Rs 3,100 crore for the development of Kollam-Theni National Highway (NH 183).
Earlier, the revised alignment for the Kollam-Theni NH development had received the final approval and the first reach from Kadavoor in Kollam to Anjilimoodu in Alappuzha district would be completed initially.
“In the first phase of development, the funds will be mainly used for land acquisition. The road renovation and development works will begin once the land is acquired. The existing NH will be widened to four-lane with a width of 24 metres,” Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, said.
The decision regarding the final approval of the alignment was made at a meeting of senior officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in New Delhi recently.
“We had approached Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to request his intervention in expediting the procedure for getting final approval of the alignment. The Minister, who responded positively in the meeting, said a quick decision would be taken,” said Suresh.
