Port projects at Vadhavan, ICTP progressing, shore protection ops by 2029

Industrial Products  -  Feb 14,2025  -

Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal has highlighted progress on two significant port projects - Vadhavan and the International Container Transhipment Port (ICTP) at Great Nicobar.

The Vadhavan Port, located near Dahanu, will be one of India’s largest deep-water ports, improving connectivity to international shipping routes and reducing transit times and costs.

"Vadhavan will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 76,000 crore, primarily on public private partnerships (PPP) with around 24% Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) component," the Minister said.

Shore protection works worth Rs 1,700 crore have been awarded, and the first phase is expected to be operational by 2029. The ICTP at Great Nicobar, India's first transhipment mega port, is progressing with environmental clearance in place.

The terminal development spans 960 hectares with an estimated cost of Rs 44,000 crore and a capacity to handle 16 million TEUs.
