PM Modi Launches ₹18,000 Crore Slate of Infrastructure, Semiconductor and Power Transmission Projects in Andhra Pradesh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched, inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth approximately ₹18,000 crore across Andhra Pradesh, spanning infrastructure, renewable energy, highways and semiconductor manufacturing. The visit also included inauguration of the ₹5,700 crore Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district.
Among the projects, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the ₹460 crore ASIP Semiconductor Project at Visakhapatnam, being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd in partnership with APACT of the Republic of Korea. Officials described it as Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing facility approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, with planned annual production of around 96 million semiconductor chips and an accompanying ancillary manufacturing ecosystem.
Modi also inaugurated the transmission system for the Kurnool Wind Energy Zone and Solar Energy Zone in Andhra Pradesh, developed in two parts at a combined cost of around ₹3,550 crore. Separately, a transmission scheme connecting the Solar Energy Zones in Ananthapuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), implemented by POWERGRID, was inaugurated at a cost of over ₹820 crore.
The transmission systems are intended to evacuate power generated in the renewable energy zones of Kurnool and Ananthapuram and route it into the national grid, supporting India's clean energy targets and reducing dependence on fossil fuel-based generation. The Prime Minister described the combined rollout of projects as part of the state's broader "Swarna Andhra" development vision.
