Ohmium & InSolare to Develop 4 MW Green Hydrogen Plant for NLC in Neyveli

Power Generation Jun 01,2026

Ohmium International and InSolare Energy have entered into a partnership to develop a 4 MW green hydrogen project for NLC India Limited at its facilities in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu. The project is expected to produce up to 700 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually, with the output designated for use across power generation, industrial operations, and mobility applications.

Under the terms of the collaboration, Ohmium International will supply its Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer technology, which is manufactured in India. InSolare Energy will serve as the EPC partner, responsible for integrating the renewable energy infrastructure with the hydrogen production systems at the Neyveli site.

PEM electrolyzer technology is suited for deployment alongside variable renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, as it can operate efficiently under fluctuating power input conditions. This allows hydrogen production to be closely aligned with renewable generation profiles at the site.

The project is positioned to demonstrate commercial viability across multiple hydrogen end-use sectors simultaneously, distinguishing it from single-application hydrogen pilot projects. The companies indicate that the initiative is intended to serve as a reference project for future green hydrogen deployments in India.

For NLC India, the project represents a further step in diversifying its energy portfolio beyond lignite mining and thermal power generation. The state-owned enterprise has been progressively increasing its investments in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies. The project is aligned with the objectives of India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets the establishment of India as a global production and export hub for green hydrogen, and contributes to the development of domestic electrolyzer manufacturing supply chains.
