NLC India, Rajasthan govt sign MoU for solar, lignite-based projects
Power Generation - Mar 13,2024 -NLC India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government for the formation of a joint venture (JV) to establish energy projects, including a lignite-based and a solar power plant in the region.
The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, R K Singh and key officials.
The MoU entails an investment of more than Rs 7,000 crore. Among the notable projects, the MoU outlines the establishment of a 125 MW lignite pit-head thermal power plant in Bikaner district and a 1,000 MW solar power plant. Additionally, a letter of intent (LoI) for the setup of an 810 MW solar power plant has already been issued. The move resonates with the corporate plan of NLC India to become a power major of 17 GW capacity with more than six GW renewable capacity by 2030.
In the ceremony, MOUs were also signed with Coal India, NTPC, PGCIL and REC for adding generation capacity and transmission system and financing.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that Rajasthan in expediting these transformative projects, while Coal Secretary, Amrit Lal Meena highlighted that with the infrastructure and land support provided by the state government, the signed projects will significantly bolster the nation's energy security.
