Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has cleared a major infrastructure project in Rajasthan. The Jaisalmer-Barmer highway will soon be upgraded to a two-lane road, improving transport near the India-Pakistan border. This initiative, worth an estimated Rs 1,237.71 crore, was announced on March 28.
The project involves strengthening and widening NH-70 and NH-11 across Jaisalmer and Barmer. Additionally, the Myajlar-Jaisalmer stretch of NH-11 and the Sundara-Myajlar-Ambasingh Ki Dhani road will be expanded. These enhancements will connect NH-25, NH-68, and NH-70, creating a seamless travel corridor.
Beyond boosting connectivity, the Jaisalmer-Barmer highway will enhance tourism. The road passes through the stunning Khuri sand dunes, a favorite among travelers. Several villages along the route will also benefit, gaining better access to markets and essential services.
