NCC-J Kumar Infra emerges lowest bidder for Mumbai's GMLR tunnel contract

Infrastructure  -  Jul 31,2023  -

NCC-J Kumar Infraprojects JV was chosen as the lowest bidder out of three for the 12.20 km Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project's 4.7 km twin tunnel construction.

Film city in Goregaon and Khindipada in Mulund will be connected by this tunnel project by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which would create an east-west route under Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SNGP). PADECO India created the project's Detailed Project Report (DPR) and alignment choices.

Four phases make up the whole GMLR project that connects the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Eastern Express Highway (EEH).

The underground section (Phase III) will be built using 2 mega tunnel boring machines (TBMs) with a diameter of around 13m and the cut and cover (C&C) method will be utilized for constructing a 1.6 km box-tunnel near Film City.

BMC had re-invited tenders for the tunnels’ construction in October 2022 with a Rs. 6,237 crore estimate. Technical bids were opened earlier this month to reveal 3 bidders.
