Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan will invest Rs 1,400 crore to set up a beverages and confectionery unit in Badanaguppe, Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka, as stated by Large and Medium Industries Minister, MB Patil.
The announcement came after the two held discussions about the project.
The beverages and confectioneries will be manufactured under the brand 'Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries'.
Around 46 acres of land have already been allocated for the project, and manufacturing operations are expected to begin in January 2025, the Minister informed.
The project was initially planned with an investment of Rs 230 crore, but the budget has been revised to Rs 1,400 crore.
