MoCA gives approval for site for Puri’s Sri Jagannath Greenfield International Airport

Infrastructure  -  Oct 24,2023  -

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has given the site approval for the future Sri Jagannath International Airport in Puri, Odisha.

As required by the Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008, the State Government filed all required paperwork for the proposed airport to the Ministry a year ago.

Approximately 5,631 INR-Crore is how much the project will cost in total. The government is prepared to proceed with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) as the land acquisition process has already begun.

The Greenfield Airport will occupy an anticipated land area of 1164 acres, with 221.48 acres being privately owned in Sipasarubali (153.37 acres) and Sandhapur (68.11 acres). As per the officials, if everything proceeds as per plan, the construction of the project will start at the earliest in the upcoming year.

An official involved with the project informed that the project proposal was submitted after conducting the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces Survey (OLS). As of October, the public hearing for land acquisitions has completed and the process for conversion of some government-owned land is underway.
