Chinese automaker MG Motor India is looking into opening a second plant in the country.
The company currently operates a manufacturing plant in Halol, Gujarat, with a capacity of 1.2 lakh units per year.
"We are looking into the possibility of establishing a second plant in India. A new facility typically takes two to three years to come online', Gaurav Gupta, deputy managing director of MG Motor India, said.
The location of the potential second plant has yet to be determined by the corporation.
Starting operations in India four years ago in 2019, the company now has five variants and sells approximately 5,000 units each month.
Out of the five models, two are electric vehicles (EV), he said. Gupta said the company plans to introduce a new model every year in India, either on the EV or ICE (internal combustion engine) platforms.
